Judy - Caged Bird

Designer: Judy Kreucher (jaydekay)
Date Posted: July 31, 2011
Keywords: DOLCE, JustRite
Category: All Occasion
Stamps: JustRite sentiment-from the Just Because Set
Ink: Adirondack mushroom
Embellishments: natural jute twine, square silver brads
Tools: Spellbinders Exclusive JustRite Custom Tag Dies, Tim Holtz "caged bird" die, Spellbinders Rose Creations, Spellbinders nestabilities label 8, EK success 3D Dots, black marker, sponge
Paper: white, DP, The Paper Cut Blu Raspberry (Festive Variety Pack),

I aged everything with Adirondack mushroom dye ink. Parts of the bird cage, bird and flowers are popped up using EK success 3D Dots.
To save an extra layer of paper, I used a black marker to color the edges then added my antiqued layer of dp. When sponging the mushroom ink on the bird cage
make it kind hit and miss. This gives it an aged look.
If your dp isn't very thick for the bird, just glue it to card stock then cut out.

"M" - Greatest Joy

Stamps: Just Rite Greatest Joy & Kindness Sentiment
Ink: Versafine Black, Memento Grape Jelly, Copic Markers (YG67,G82,BV11,BV31,0)
Embellishments: Mark Richards Crystal Effects Pearl, Tsukineko Psst! Shimmer Spritz Sparkle
Tools: Spellbinder’s Classic Oval, Nestabilities Fleur De Lis Border, Sizzix Damask Embossing folder, Just Rite 2 ¼” x 3 1/16” wooden stamper
Paper: white, purple

It was so much fun playing in the JustRite challenge this month! It is a joy to work with Betsy and Sandy, owners of Dolce Stamps and Cards … but to get to play in this month’s challenge was a real bonus!

I colored the image with Copic markers, die cut it with an oval Nestie and gave the image a good spray of Psst! Shimmer Spritz in Sparkle (my personal favorite and impossible to see in photographs). After dry embossing the background with the Tim Holtz Damask folder, I applied Memento Grape Jelly ink direct to the white card stock with a dewdrop inkpad. Added a Fancy Tag, border, pearls and am calling it a card. Hope you like it and thanks for looking!

Paper: Webster's Pages: Petite Papers--Ladies & Gents and Trendsetter; SU: Basic Gray

Making this card was one of those experiences where you look at the plethora of sentiments in a JR set and think: which one, and isn't the thin cut of the framed tag just lovely? So off I went and used a triple staged sentiment. It was great to have the dies to cut the tag frame separately from the sentiment, this meant I could raise them up for dimension on what is a fairly flat card, given I used the BG paper to set the scene and placement.

I am in LOVE! Yes, in love with the Just Rite’s Beautiful Blossoms Set, the Mini Sentiments and Custom Tag Dies! I just couldn’t decide which floral image to use first, so I decided to make an all occasion gift set of four cards. I water colored the flower images with reinkers and a watercolor brush. Once they were dry and cut out using the oval Nestabilities, I applied Crystal Lacquer for added shine to the flowers and leaves. I was able to add the white dotting on top of the Crystal Lacquer (once dried, of course) with my white Galaxy permanent marker. I really wanted the focus of my cards to be on the Beautiful Blossoms images, so I kept my layers to a minimum and did not add any embellishments. I made my own background designer paper using Itty Bitty backgrounds in the coordinating colors for each card.

I had never used JustRite Stamps before. I love how interchangeable they are. I was thrilled, the Tag Making Kit came with the stamps and the Spellbinder tags!! This Shaker Card was such fun to make! I used the smallest Large scallop Oval from Spellbinders as a cloud template and sponged the background with Tumbled Glass Ink. I made some hand rolled roses and sponged them with Spun Sugar ink. The Birdhouse is colored with copics and is popped up for added dimension. I stamped the image again and cut the leaves out for the roses. Since I store my stamps without their packaging, I used the plastic packaging to cut the window for the shaker card, using the Mega Ovals. For a little extra pizazz I added Stardust Stickles to the wings of the dragonfly and the centers of the roses. I quite enjoyed using these Justrite Stamps!!

Paper: The Paper Cut JellyBean Green (Earth Variety Pack), Basic Grey Kioshi Paper Pad DP, purple paper

Ever since our Design Team cards started coming in using our JustRite stamp sets I have been dying to try them out myself so today I stole a few minutes after the store closed and made this card. It really started with a sample I had made of the Floral Doily earlier in the day for a customer who came in. I had spritzed it with a Shimmer Spritz (Frost) to demo that product as well. When I saw that lying on my work table in my favorite purple and the perfect round shape, I knew I was on the way. After that things just sort of came together. After embossing my JustRite sentiment on my doily, I offset it a bit and popped it up to make stand out. I added a few black rhinestones to some of the DP flower centers to add a bit more accent. I was so tickled to find that even I could make a card with these great stamps!
I hope you enjoy it!

Paper: white, black, dp, green

To get a weathered wood look on the bird houses, I have found leaving just a bit of white showing through looks a bit more rustic.
When most of us color things we tend to color in everything, forgetting that white is a color too, so leave a bit of white for highlights here and there.
You will soon find out how much you want to leave to get just the feel you are looking for!

I love the small words to these Just Right sets.
I decided to leave off the border on this image and mount it up several times. I cut out the small butterfly and popped it up on foam, adding the button for an accent.
On the inside I made a tag with the sentiments in the set. I finished it off with some twine and a small coordinating button.

Edna - For Art Thou Butterfly Take 2

Designer:Edna Morrisedie (Edna15)

Catagory: Birthday
Stamps:My Heart Stamps for You: Floral Butterfly, Hero Arts: A Special Note of Thanks
Ink: Memento: Rich Cocoa; Copic Markers
Embellishments: Random: Ribbon and Buttons
Tools:Sponge Dauber; 3-D Dots: Foam Squares; WRMK: Corner Chomper; Spellbinders: Fancy Tags Two.
Paper: Jillibean: Dutch Mustard Soup; Kraft Cardstock

Inspiration for this card started with the need for a green birthday card, so once I had settled on these papers, I opted to get all inky with the edges to bring the quite modern papers in line with the etched style of the butterfly image. I wanted to pop up the wings of the butterfly with a double impression, but instead of extending the wings on the already large image, I cut down the second pressing and made a smaller version of the butterfly and gave it centre placement.
Thanks, Edna.

Embellishments: Elizabeth Craft Design Sticker Large butterfly, Mark Richards Crystal Sticker Pearls (White)
Tools:Alcohol blending solution, scallop border punch
Paper: Taken with Teal, Black, Glossy White, polkadotted dp

This butterfly is actually a silver sticker by Elizabeth Craft Designs. They are so fun and easy to use! You peel the sticker away from the sticker sheet and place it onto your piece of cardstock. I colored my butterfly with Copic markers (B04, B06, B28, YG11, Y21), but you can also lay the stickers onto colored cardstock or designer paper. I love creating my own designer paper and playing with various inks. For the spotted background paper here, I used Adirondack Alcohol Inks in Pool, Stream, and Willow on my blending tool and stamped that all over glossy white cardstock. I then added drops of the same ink colors over that to create the larger circles. I used a touch of alcohol blending solution, as well. Once this dried, I spritzed some champagne shimmer mist of the cardstock. The medium-sized pearls on my scalloped border are the natural color they came in. I used the same pearls for the center of the butterfly's body, but I colored them with my Peacock Blue Copic marker (B06).

Tools:SpellbindersCircles and Foral Doily Motifs
Paper: The Paper Cut Pink Lemonade (Pastel Variety Pack), Black, White, and Halographic

This card features the coolest stickers! These are not just any stickers, these are Elizabeth Craft Peel Off Stickers. These are vinyl stickers that are very versatile. I used a butterfly sticker that started out as gold, however it didn't match with my card so I colored it with a black copic marker before I peeled it off with my tweezers. Once it was peeled off I stuck it to some stained glass holographic paper. You could use any kind of paper you wanted behind it. You could even use Christmas holographic wrap that you can find at most dollar stores and have the same effect. I added a single rhinestone for the head. It was so quick and easy to make this unique embellishment! The photo doesn't do it justice!
The image I used is Poppy Background by Hero Arts. I stamped it in versamark and embossed it with black embossing powder. I colored this with regular water based markers using 3 shades of pink and two greens. I first started by directly coloring the lightest shade on the poppies. Then coloring with the middle shade, not covering everything I had just colored. Blend with the lightest shade. Next, pick up the darkest color using the lightest marker, by touching tip to tip and color in the darkest areas. Coloring with markers this way can give you a graduated blended look, much like copics. . My tip for coloring is to not push too hard when coloring. This will keep your markers in fabulous coloring condition as well as a smoother colored image.
Once my image was colored I cut it out with Circle Nestablities then popped it up on Spellbinders Floral Doily Motifs. This is the part you can all laugh at me for..... I get my Paper Doilies from the restaurant I go to for lunch with my girlfriends. The Waitress is kind enough to give me a stack every now and then. A good tip goes a long way sometimes. I added dollar store ribbon to the corners and some rhinestones. Finished it off with a white satin bow and a wee bit of glitter in the flower centers.

I love Butterfly's so I love making butterfly cards. These My Heart Stamps for You butterflies are so much fun to work with. I started by embossing a "field" of butterflies which I then cut and framed using Spellbinders Curved rectangles. I then embossed the larger, Floral Butterfly, cut it out , dressed it up with a few seed pearls and let it hover over the "field" I'd created. I popped the whole frame up off the white background which I had embossed with small dots to give texture. I really like the way this turned out. I hope you do to. It can be used for any occasion.

As they say, there are never really mistakes, just room for embellishments!

When I looked at this stamp I saw embossing and colouring of the negative space... and this time that happened in pink and red... the inspiration for the card was definitely the stamp and then the elements of the card came together from my choice of pink and red. SO MANY options with this stamp for applying ink... coloured this time, but I know this stamp will become a fave for me, so looking forward to trying some different options!
Thanks, Edna.
